In February 1998 I really had this urge to go flying, so I ventured down to Boship near the South Coast and took a trial flight in a Shadow with Deepak Mahajan and Microlight Sport Aviation.

That was a mistake. A really bad mistake. Why? Well, as soon as went up in the Shadow and flew it for a little bit I realised that this was what I wanted - it was what I longed for. BUGGER! Sadly, Deepak's outfit moved further away from me to Lydd in Kent, and then onto Cambridge, so that left just two outfits within a 90 minute drive from where I live who teach on Shadows.

The Shadow Flight Centre at Old Sarum, Salisbury and Cloudbase Aviation at Redhill Aerodrome, Surrey. Then I saw a new advertisement in Microlight Flying, the magazine of the BMAA (Our regulatory body). This was for Southern Light Flyers operating out of Shoreham Airport - A large licenced airport complete with Air Traffic Control!!

Keith Mitchell turned out to be a terrific instructor, and I personally like the way he books students for an entire morning or afternoon to go flying - though it does make a big lump dent in one's funds. I had lots of fun with Keith.
