As can be seen from the picture of a Shadow on the right, the configuration of the tail is slightly unusual, in that the rudder fin is underneath the horizontal stabiliser rather than the more conventional place of above. There is a very good reason for this. You probably already noticed the engine is a pusher, ie. behind the cockpit, and the airflow from the propeller over the rudder fin ensures it is very effective at low airspeeds. The two mainwheels have drum brakes fitted, and these are operated with the heels of the feet and are quite effective - easily holding the aeroplane still while a full-power runup is carried out. The Shadow can literally turn on its spot on the ground.
