The End is nigh
I said 'This isn't too good, is it?' and climbed away, only to be met at about 400 feet with Mr X chopping the power again. The third attempt was much better - we would have got it in ok; but still not as good as I usually do them. We did some more general handling, including being circled closely, by a rather large Chinook, whilst we were doing a tight turn or two. Mr X indicated it was time to go back to base. I assumed I'd failed in a big way. At 1500 feet overhead the airfield, it was chop-the-power time again and he said he wanted me to carry out a glide approach and land on the numbers (Literally the painted identification marking for the runway; about 10 metres from the end). "Ok" I said with a certain air of confidence. "Actually, anywhere on the runway will do" Mr X said. He's the examiner and he can do what he pleases eh! Down and around we go. Looking good. I do the flare and literally float half way down the runway. As we're floating along, I said "You *did* say anywhere, didn't you?!" No wind eh. |
