| Nikki and I went to Central Florida on the second and third weeks of April 1999. We both decided it was time we went somewhere sunny for a change. We'd both stuck at work and other things, and it was to be our first 'proper' holiday in some years. It coincidently occured at the same time as Sun 'N' Fun - a big aviation orientated event. Now, if you've checked out my flying page, this probably won't have come as a surprise to you! |

Sadly, we (I) could only spend a couple of days at this week-long event for several reasons, one of which being that in order to 'arrange' (read that as 'bribe') for me to go, I had to promise Nikki that she could visit Disneyland and some of the other Touristy places.

We had tried to arrange to go with some friends of ours, Cass and Bob.
Unfortunately, where Bob works they have to (mostly) take their holidays at a
fixed time, and this time of course coincided with the Easter school holidays.
Since the air fares tend to have a 50% penalty shoved on them during this
holiday, we decided that we would go a week after them. That was we would still
spend a week together.
Bob and I go back a long long way. We first met at the interviews for the Apprenticeship we were both interested in doing. Anyway, we both got places and went through the four year Apprenticeship together. This is a picture of Bob taken late one night. I'm not sure if he's surprised or tired. Nikki thinks that it's because he's reading a 'scarey' book :) |
They say the Americans build things big, and their camper-vans are no exception to this genaralisation! That small child in the middle is, in fact Nikki. Note that this monster didn't seem to be a special or anything like that, they were seen all over the places. Let's see you drive that around one of our mini-roundabouts then. It had practically everything you need for a weekend away - twin air conditioners and satellite TV.
There are no pictures of Disney, Universal Studios or Sea World. I just wasn't about to lug my camera everywhere to either get wet (Sea World - you *will* get wet) or lost/damaged on a ride.
| In case you were wondering, it does take a *full* day to do Universal or Sea World, and a day to do *each* of the Disney Parks (There are four). We didn't even attempt do everything possible. I found it quite amusing to see people desperately running from attraction to attraction in an attempt to see or do everything. We just strolled around and went for the attractions we really wanted to see. I reckon we covered 80-90% of each place, more by luck than judgement. Lots of people were queueing for attractions advertising a waiting time of 45mins, yet later that same attraction would be 15mins. Remember, it's a holiday, not a race. We saw this sunset one evening when we were nearly home, and I squeeled to a stop and snapped it at the side of the road. It's a pity my scanner just doesn't do any of the pictures justice. |

Hmm, about toys. Tandy (Sorry, that's Radio Shack out there) is great. I bought a radio-controlled 4wd truck from there, played with it for 2 weeks and took it back for a refund on the way to the airport. No quibble, no argument. |
and/or profane comments to me.
