Obtaining the PPL (A) Microlight requires the following:

That any flying instruction received must be under the direct supervision of a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) rated instructor.

That within 12 months prior to your application for a licence you pass simple written tests of the 'multiple choice' type (a tick against a right answer) on Air Law, Navigation/ Meteorology, Technical (Principles of Flight) and Human Performance Limitations (from January 1992) plus an oral test on salient points of the aeroplane you fly.

Medical Declaration:

NOTE: A medical examination may not be necessary, but if it is, the GP is entitled to charge a fee for it. The amount is at the discretion of the doctor involved. The CAA recommended a fee for class 3 certification of 38quid, but one would hope you would negotiate a lower fee than this, if one is to be charged at all.
