So, after we had tea, a choccy bar or two and splashed some fuel about, it's 1pm and time to go. Next up is Dunkeswell and a fraction under an hour later I'm on short finals wondering if the Pitts Special that's doing aerobatics in the middle of the active runway (including loops at zero feet) is going to be a problem. It isn't, which probably is just as well - it's a lot bigger than me! We decide to refuel before lunch, but the bowser driver asks nicely if we want fuel now because he's off to lunch if not. 'Ahh soddit' we cry, we'll have lunch first. After lunch and a speedy refuel we're onwards to Eaglescott after a half hour stop. How can lunch and a refuel from the bowser take half the time of just a tea stop? Who knows indeed. We land at Eaglescott just over an hour later and it's a bit late in the day to carry on. It's only 6.30pm but it's looking very dim and getting a bit chilly, so we decide to camp there for the night. No sooner had we got the tents up, than the field is away with rain. Not just any old rain, oh no - this wet stuff looked like it meant business. Oops. Best retire to the local pub then. One very interesting trip in the back of a van zooming through the local lanes later, and we arrive at the local pub. One thing that was apaprent was that everyone was SO friendly and hospitable, from the people at Eaglescott to the local pub. The food was top notch too - just what was required to keep three famished aviators happy. Not to mention the beer too ;-) Click Next |
