In 1991 I started reading Flyer and Pilot magazines. It was all so interesting, especially seeing some advertisements for old Cessna 152s at £12,000 - almost within my grasp!

Then I learnt about maintenance.

It appears that a replacement 150 HP engine runs to £10,000 or so - that's almost the cost of the aeroplane! Even without this, the level of maintenance you can do yourself appeared to be very limited and the costs for it do be done by an approved maintenance organisation were just plain daft as far as I was concerned (I didn't know of the PFA at this time.

I came across a book in the local library, and it had some details about Microlighting in the UK. Most of these little aeroplanes looked somewhat flimsy, and to be honest, downright dangerous. One looked different though, and it was manufactured by CFM in Suffolk.
